Strep throat treatment

Common symptoms of strep throat in children and adults include:

• Severe and sudden sore throat without coughing, sneezing, or other cold symptoms.
• SoreThroat - Sore throats can be painful and annoying. Fortunately, most sore throats are caused by a minor illness and go away without medical treatment.


• Pain or difficulty with swallowing.
• Fever over 101°F (38.3°C). Lower fevers may point to a viral infection and not strep.

• Fever - A fever also known as a high fever or a high temperature is not by itself an illness. It's usually a symptom of an underlying condition, most often an infection.
• Viral Infection - A viral infection is caused by a virus and is often the cause of minor illness, such as a cold or the stomach flu. A viral infection usually causes many different symptoms that often come on quickly (over hours to a day or two) without prior illness.


• Swollen lymph nodes in the neck.

• Lymph Nodes - Lymph nodes are part of the lymph system, which carries lymph fluid, nutrients, and waste material between the body tissues and the bloodstream. The lymph system is also an important part of the immune system, the body's defense system against disease.
• White or yellow spots or coating on the throat and tonsils.
• Tonsils - The tonsils (palatine tonsils) are a pair of soft tissue masses located at the rear of the throat (pharynx). Each tonsil is composed of tissue similar to lymph nodes, covered by pink mucosa (like on the adjacent mouth lining). Running through the mucosa of each tonsil are pits, called crypts.
• Bright red throat or dark red spots on the roof of the mouth at the back near the throat.



• Swollen tonsils, although this symptom may also be caused by a viral infection.
